Safer, More Inclusive Public Spaces for Everyone
Feeling safe, welcome and comfortable in public spaces and transport hub precincts is essential for social and economic participation, and for the overall wellbeing of our communities. Yet safety concerns still influence where, when and how women, girls and gender diverse people use public spaces—both day and night.
Safer Cities: Her Way 2 is a $15 million grant program and part of the NSW Government’s broader Safer Cities initiative, delivered in partnership with state agencies and local councils. The program provides funding to councils to improve real and perceived safety in public spaces and transport hub precincts for everyone, with a particular focus on women, girls and gender diverse people.
The program aligns with the United Nations Safer Cities for Girls framework and aims to:
Increase safety and access to public spaces
Enable people to move freely and independently in their communities
Strengthen community participation in the design and management of public places
Together, these initiatives help create public spaces that feel safer, more inclusive and more welcoming for all.
